Connectivity Troubleshooting
Diagnose and fix common connection issues with RedPhish.
Last updated: February 2026How RedPhish Connects
RedPhish communicates with two services:
- redphish.app: For authentication, subscription verification, and account management
- Scan API: For checking URLs against threat intelligence
Both connections require internet access. If either service is unreachable, some features may not work.
Signs of Connectivity Issues
You may have a connectivity problem if:
- The toolbar icon stays gray even though you are signed in
- The popup shows "Connection Issue" or "Unable to verify subscription"
- Links are not being scanned on pages
- You see a "Retry" button in the popup
Basic Troubleshooting
Check Your Internet Connection
Visit any website to confirm you have internet access. If other sites load, your connection is working.
Check if RedPhish Services Are Reachable
Try visiting redphish.app directly. If the site does not load, there may be a service outage or a network issue blocking access.
Reload the Extension
- Type
chrome://extensions(or equivalent for your browser) in the address bar - Find RedPhish in the list
- Toggle the extension off and on again
- Reload any open tabs
Clear Extension Data
- Click the RedPhish icon and sign out
- Close all browser windows
- Reopen your browser
- Click the RedPhish icon and sign in again
Subscription Verification Errors
If RedPhish cannot verify your subscription:
- A "Retry" button appears in the popup
- Protection may be paused
- The icon may show as gray
How to Fix
- Click the "Retry" button in the popup
- If that fails, sign out and sign in again
- If problems persist, check your subscription status at redphish.app/profile
RedPhish automatically retries failed subscription checks with increasing delays. Temporary issues usually resolve on their own.
Authentication Errors
If you see repeated authentication errors:
- A badge may appear on the toolbar icon
- Sign out and sign in again to reset your session
Browser Specific Issues
Chrome
- Extension may pause in battery saver mode on some systems
- Very old Chrome versions may have compatibility issues
Firefox
- Private browsing windows require explicit extension permission
- Container tabs may affect cookie based authentication
Edge
- Extension updates from the store may lag behind Chrome
Reporting Persistent Issues
If problems continue after trying these steps, contact support with:
- Your browser name and version
- Your operating system
- What you see in the popup when clicking the RedPhish icon
- Any error messages
